Working with the ever-patient Joanna Craig in redesigning my website has been an interesting experience. It has been about so much more than SEO, engaging content and design and corporate branding although there has, of course, been much of that too!
It has given me an opportunity to take stock of my coaching business and refocus. What is exciting for me is that the process has huge parallels with what I often find myself encouraging my coaching clients to consider. Periodically taking stock and considering whether things are as you would like them is a process I commend to you all.
It has offered me the opportunity to reflect on who I am as a coach and how I share that. I started my business 9 years ago and have been fortunate to have developed a successful business which has evolved over that time so that I am now able to say with confidence what I do as my business focus has become more clearly aligned with my values, with what I enjoy doing but also what I believe I am good at.
So, this process has enabled me to get clarity on my professional identity and I have been able to identify where I want to focus my energies in my business.
It has also reinforced what I knew already – and Joanna may testify to this – that I am something of a perfectionist. While its is good to strive for the best, sometimes we can spend too much time and energy on perfect and too much details when it isn’t necessary. A former colleague one counselled me, ‘Sometimes, good enough is good enough.’ Actually, my website is wonderful – it reflects me and what I do and I’ve enjoyed the process of taking stock immensely.
I wonder how many of you would find it helpful to take some time out to consider:
- Who am I – personally, professionally?
- Am I doing (personally and professionally) what I want to do, what I’m good at?
- Does my personal and professional life align with my values?
- Do I have a narrative to share with others – clients, colleagues, friends and family?
- What could I let go of?
